Thimiana

Thimiana is a fairly large village known for its quarries which supplied the island with the reddish brown "Thimiana" stone. The church of St Efstratios with the pebbled courtyard was constructed with the same stone in 1890. The village church of St. Demetrius and Fatouros Garden with the statue of John Fatouros, who died fighting the Turks in 1822, are some of the important sights. The haven of the village is Agia Ermioni and the nearby beaches are Karfas, Mega Limnionas and Agia Fotia. Thimiana is well known for its carnival called "Mostra". It's a 3-day Carnival during which old customs revive and many guests are gathered to celebrate.
